Vacation???

Most people take vacation to relax and go somewhere far from home. What do we do on our vacation??? Go to graduations, end of school year programs, and...build a house. Lets just say that our bodies sure don't feel like they were on vacation.

Our basement slab has been finished for over a week now, but time sure does fly when it's the end of the school year and the weather has been awesome! Thus, an overdue blog post.

The lower level of the house is now fully sheathed. YES!!!! What seemed like a dream a month ago, is now a reality. We are one step closer to getting this basement closed in :)

Ladies & Gentlemen!

We now have one fully framed basement. Yes, after three years, there are four completely framed walls to our basement. This was the biggest thing we had to look forward to, and now...on to bigger and even better things :)

Here We Go Again

Almost a completely framed Basement :)

Here we go again...back to what we started three years ago. We had to skip a year of building due to the shoulder replacement surgery I had to have last March. But, now we are back on track and ready to really hit some nails!

We've been blessed to have a friend eager to help us get things moving along, and boy, it seems like they are. Pictures really can't tell how much we have already accomplished in just the last few weeks. And there is still more to come. If we can just get mother nature to cooperate with us, and tone down the wind, all would be very good. Yesterday, the guys were lucky that they didn't get hit with a peice of flying plywood. So here's where we are at :)

Another update and pictures. Wow! It's been TWO years since we've updated this site, crazy how time flies.

Progress!

Wednesday we received a couple units of 2x8x8's...it's time to start some framing! After having to dig out a good foot deep or more of sand across the lowest frost footing, we decided to get that framed in and done. I was sore for 2 1/2 days! Man, I am out of shape.

Michael's dad and brother helped us out this weekend. One forty foot section was completed and a couple of sections were put up on each thirty foot side. We found out that the wall we put up last fall had to come down because it wasn't green treated lumber...BUMMER! Atleast we can use it forsomething else.

The boys even helped us out! I think they are just as excited as we are. When this house is complete, we will all be able to say we had our own part in the build. That is a very good feeling.

And the wall came "tumbling" down...

Anxiously awaiting TAX SEASON and SPRING.

Thought it was time for an update...so there it is, lol.

A Wall!!!

We have a wall! It's been a LONG time coming, but it's something.

We used up the wood we had for the footing frames. So all we spent on this was a total of $18!

You can't complain about that! I got to run a chop box and a drill, so I am happy! One day you will see me on This Old House (atleast that is what I told Michael, lol).

We were finally able to get a cement truck out to pour the footings

Below you can see the "Wayne's World" pumper truck. I called it this because on the side it said,

"Schwing" 32XL. It was super hot that day. And of course, as soon as the pumper started pouring, the wind DIED...I mean completely. Then, 5 minutes later, the sun decided to show it's pretty HOT face. It's a good thing we hammered this out in about an hour. Thanks to the help of the pumper dude, Michael's dad, and family friend Steve.

And so it begins...

And so it begins...my first experience blogging. Thanks goes to my Sister-in-Law, who has no idea that she gave me the idea to do this. She has two blogs that I follow, and I thought it would be fun to do one myself.

A little history for you. My name is Mya, I was introduced to my husband Michael in 1997 when we were Seniors in high school...Thanks Lora! :) We got married in April 2002. This was not before our first son Tristan came in September of 2000. Hunter followed closely behind in February of 2002. Five years later, our third son Leo was born.

After we got married, Michael, the boys, and I bought a single wide trailer home. Okay, that was fine then. But, we knew we wanted ALOT more. We had a dream of building our own home. No banks or lenders, no general contractors...just us (and whatever we could gather up out of family and friends for building). Fast forward 7 years...Here we are in a different single wide trailer home. Hardly anything for protection from Mother Nature. And crammed into 3 bedrooms with 3 young boys. Yeah, we are quite "cozy". LOL

So here, for your following pleasure, I present...Field of Dreams. Our blog following the dream we've had for 7 years, from start to finish. It should be a fun (and stressful) ride. And if you are wondering why I am calling it "Field of Dreams"...we live in the middle of a field. It's as simple as that, lol. And a special thanks goes out to my husband's parents. If it weren't for them, we wouldn't be doing this at all.
